**Mulch Calculations**
**Estimate the mulch required in the following areas, in cubic yards.**
**1” \= .0254m 1ft3 \= .037 cubic yards**
**1” \= .083ft 1m3 \= 1.308 cubic yards**
1\. A square area 10m x 10m with a 3 in. layer of wood bark mulch.
2\. A rectangular bed 15ft x 5ft with a 4in. layer of pine bark mulch.
3\. Mulch under a young tree to the dripline if the distance from the middle of the trunk to the dripline is 4m. Use 3 inches of wood bark mulch.
4\. A half moon shrub bed up against a brick wall. Diameter \= 12 ft. They want it covered with 2”
of rock mulch.
5\. A residential backyard with 4 separate shrub beds. Bed 1 –10’ x 15’, Bed 2 – 8’ x 12’, Bed 3-
8’ x 20’, Bed 4- 6’ x 15’. 3” layer of mulch is required.
6\. A 2” layer of washed rock in a playground area 30’ x 35’
7\. The Challenge
A stream bed that is 3m wide, 1 m deep, and 10m long needs to be lined with 0.076m (3”) of rock mulch. (treat as 1/2 an oval shape)
