The purpose of this project is to get you to consider tree selection plan, based on the site constraints given in the photo and the benefits to putting them there. Presentations will be done October 30th, assignment due before your presentation. Imagine that this is a park in Olds AB and the street and park are on the South side of the buildings. The sidewalks measure 2 meters from the building to the road and the mulched beds are roughly 1 meter x 1.5 meters. The green space of the park is 5 meters x 5 meters. You have tested the soil and it has been confirmed as Clay Loam with 6% organic matter. Work in groups of 2 (no individual assignments) Your team will create a printable document (3-7 pages) that you will print off and hand in before your presentation. Use a double spaced, professional font. Document parameters. Tree selection of 2 different species. 1 species for the sidewalk mulch beds and 1 species to go into the green space of the park. Common and Latin names. What form of nursery stock would you recommend for each tree and why. Ball and burlap, potted plants, bare root. Give your rationale for choosing these species. (Why will they do well in that area?) Consider site constraints and potential hazards. Choose trees that will fit the areas given above. For each species – explain 4 different benefits to planting those trees in the two separate areas. You will present your teams choices, rationale, and benefits verbally to the class. All members must participate in the presentation. You may include a visual aid if you wish, but it is not required. Plan for presentations to take 5-10 minutes, including questions Spelling mistakes will be deducted from final score at a rate of 1 mark per mistake. Limit of 8 marks to be deducted. Each team member will receive the same grade.
