Topics include tree growth and structure, root systems, and how site conditions affect tree health. You’ll explore planting and maintenance techniques to help trees establish and thrive, and practice assessing tree condition, structure, risk, and value using methods like sales comparison, income, cost, and trunk formula approaches. Students will also learn tree protection strategies during construction, pruning techniques to improve structure and safety, and safe tree removal, including chainsaw use and stump grinding. By the end, you’ll be able to evaluate, protect, and manage urban trees to keep them healthy, safe, and valuable. Grading: Assignments (5)40% Tree assessment Project25% Exams (2)35% 100% Quizzes, tests and exams are cumulative and comprehensive. Late assignment marks will be reduced by 20% day 1. 2nd day late it is an automatic 0. Any portion of a day past the time deadline counts as an entire day. A day is considered a 24-hour period from the deadline date and time. All assignments must be handed in to receive a mark for the class.
