LHAP 305 Tree Risk Assessment, Valuation, and Protection
In this Group Assignment your team (the tree assessors) will be presenting your Tree Risk Assessment, Valuation, and Protection recommendations to the rest of the class and guest audience members. Everyone will do this project in groups of 3 (one group of 2).
For this assignment each group will
Create a typed report on your findings that will be printed off and handed in before your presentation. Do this on google docs and invite the instructor to be a viewer.
Create a slideshow as part of your presentation.
Presentations will be on January 29, 2026. The Assessment and Report will be printed and handed to the instructor prior to presenting.
Identify your names, your company name, date of assessment, and tree location.
Identify and assess the tree on campus (All groups will assess the same tree.)
The assessed tree will be the Brandon Elm tree between Lot B and Werklund Agriculture and Technology Centre.
Your company will;
Complete a Level 2 - Basic Tree Risk Assessment.
Fill out Page 1 and 2 of the ISA Basic Tree Risk Assessment (ensure that this is stapled to your final, physical copy)
You will assess the tree for defects, site conditions,and potential targets.
As part of the assessment you will base your risk rating on the Likelihood of Failure consequences of failure, and the Likelihood of Impact
You will include your recommended mitigation measures.
Calculate a dollar value for the Elm to the nearest $1000, using the Trunk Formula Technique
Include the logic behind your given depreciation factors and description of why you gave it this value.
Calculate the Elm’s Tree Protection Zone. Show me how you got to your conclusion including:
Critical root zone calculations and
Tree protection zone calculations
Recommendations for protection
Your team will be graded together and awarded the same mark.
The document should be 5-10 pages, double spaced, 12-point size and you choose a professional font.
Your presentation will be no less than 10 minutes and no more than 20 minutes, including questions.
During the presentation all members must participate.
Media will be worth marks, video or photos are acceptable.
Spelling mistakes in the document will be deducted from the final score at a rate of 1 mark per mistake. Limit of 15 marks.
All photos, videos, and resources must be cited using the APA method, even if they are your own.
